Details: An impressive array of PowerGlaz® photovoltaic modules was recently installed at the headquarters of Festo Pneumatic in Spain. The facade at Festo Pneumatics comprises 320 PowerGlaz® modules measuring typically 1.2m x 2m, and provides approximately 30,300kWh of electricity per annum (equivalent to the consumption of about 15 households in the UK). The installation is part funded by the Spanish government's 'feed in' tariff scheme which enables Festo to be refunded for any excess electricity which is fed back into the national grid at a rate of 0.455E/W. Similar 'feed in' tariffs are commonplace throughout most of Europe, but have yet to be adopted in the UK. The system works by feeding excess power back to the grid, the customer is then credited with the value of the electricity fed into the national grid.
The layout and overall size of the facade resulted in the need for infill panels fitted at the edge of the facade which had to look like PowerGlaz® panels but do not produce electricity. Because Romag produce 'bespoke' modules, providing these purpose made infill panels was not a problem, and enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the PowerGlaz® array.
